M1 Drogheda Chamber Skillnet and the National Recruitment Federation Skillnet, supported by the Drogheda and District Chamber and National Recruitment Federation, are delighted to present the Commuter Jobs Expo which will run in the City North Hotel on the 13th February 2020 from 2-8pm.

The event is part of the #livelocalworklocal campaign aimed at highlighting opportunities in the wider Drogheda area that can help workers gain a better life work balance. According to Census 2016, the region has one of the highest rates of commuters and also has the longest commute in Ireland with a number of commuters travelling for well over three hours per day.

Attendees at the Commuter Jobs Expo will benefit from a local jobs showcase, demonstrating the breadth of regional companies with vacancies. There will also be talks on the benefits of working closer to home, including the quality of regional jobs available, better work/life balance, emerging clusters and opportunities.

Individuals will be able to meet with multiple companies and recruitment agencies in one location. And there will also be a Career Clinic where people can have brief one on one session with experts in CV writing, interview skills, career pathways and career progression, remote working and well-being in the workplace.

"This expo is a fantastic opportunity to explore what career opportunities are available locally. Ireland has one of the lowest participation rate of women over 35 returning to the workforce because of childcare costs. Spending less time commuting  by working locally may help reduce this cost and enable more women to return to the workforce." Geraldine King, CEO, National Recruitment Federation

"A key focus for the chamber is to  encourage some of the 10,000 highly-skilled commuters back to the North East. This will help local companies to successfully recruit people with the right skills and will help businesses further develop in the North East and along the M1 Corridor. There are so many benefits to living and working locally, including saving time and money and having a more positive impact on the environment. Current Commuters are spending up to 20 hours per week commuting – it will be more productive for people and companies to work locally. We are also conducting an online Commuter survey on www.M1Skillnet.ie to assess the needs and skills of commuters.”  Breanndán Casey, Secretary of Drogheda & District Chamber of Commerce
